1) How Long have you been in the hobby ?

Well I have been keeping freshwater fish since I was 5 years old , when I was 18 , I bought my first saltwater tank off a diver , who sold me his 6 ft x 2.5 ft x 2 ft high , fully stocked with coral sand , dead coral structures , fish and water , The year was 1971 ! , two years after man walked on the moon , This started me in this amazing hobby or addiction

2a) What size is your winning tank, dimensions and litres?

Tank is 2100 x 750 x 750 , 1200 ltrs aprox Starfire glass , built by Gary Maher

2b) Any reasons for that size tank?

This was the biggest I could go , to fit into the sunroom.

2c) How long has this tank been setup?

This tank was set up on 26th January 2011.

3) Anything you want to say about your stand ?

My stand is also custom built by Gary Maher , Two Pack white to match the walls of the sunroom.

4) Do you have a sump and/or refugium?

My sump is a Ecosystem pro filter system 4822 , 48 inch x 22 x 22 inch , 60 lbs of Miracle mud with heaps of macro algae , Refugium lighting is 3 x 24 watt CFL , run 24/7.

5) Filtration ?

I use aprox 40 kgs of live rock in the display , These are drilled and placed on acrylic rods , to create bommies and reduce any deadspots , I have 72 kgs of Aragalive Hawaiian Black sand.

6) Do you have a skimmer? If so, what ?

My skimmer is a Royal Exclusive Bubble King Supermarin 250.

7) Water flow/movement (powerheads etc) ?

For water flow I use 2 Vortech MP40’s , one on reefcrest mode and the other on lagoon mode.

8) Lighting, type and times ?

For lighting I use Two 4 x 39 watt ATI Powermodules , Total Lighting 312 watts , Front to Back .. KZ Fiji Purple, ATI tru Actinic , KZ coral light new generation , ATI blue plus
Times tubes 2 and 4 , Start 10 am finish 9 pm , Tubes 1 and 3 , Start 1.30 pm finish 7.45 pm.

9) Other equipment such as auto topoff, Ca reactor etc ?

Other equipment is a Tunze Osmolator.

10) Water parameters ?

Water Parameters , I use ASW Tropic Marin Pro Reef
Cal 400
Mag 1300
Alk 7.0
PH 8.2
Phos .05
Nitrate 0

11) Additives and conditioners (kalk, phophate removers etc.)

I run a TLF 550 phosban reactor with .4 ltr Rowaphos.

12) Fish stock.

1 Sailfin tang
2 Blue Tangs mated pair
1 Coral beauty
1 Flame Hawkfish
1 Bi – colour blennie
1 Kupang damselfish
1 Copperband butterfly
3 Vanderbilt Chromis
6 Dispar Anthias
4 Pasqualis Anthias
3 Flame Anthias
1 Bi –colour Anthias
2 Randalli Anthias
3 Pictillis Anthias
2 Smithvansi Anthias
1 Evansi anthis

13) Coral stock.

The coral stock is mainly Hammers , Frogsporn , Torches , 4 x Symphyllias , 6 Lobos ,Plus various Rics, Rhodactus and morphs.

14) Other Inverts.

The inverts consist of 5 x Strom snails , I large trochus plus numerous baby trochus.

15) Maintenance such as water changes, cleaning etc?

Maintenance is quite easy , I clean the glass 2 to 3 times a week with a Hammerhead cleaner , Empty the skimmer twice per week , And do a 200 ltr water change every Saturday morning , I rake my sandbed twice per week , Plus add RO water to the top up container 2 to 3 times a week , I change my carbon every fortnight , and change Rowaphos every 2 to 3 weeks.

16) Acknowledgments and any other comments you would like to make ?

I would like to thank Ben ( n0rk ) , who has guided me in all things including lighting choices , and even talked me into going starfire , He normally gives his reply in Latin , and sometimes confuses me , however , I would also like to thank Heath of Qld coral creations , who supplied me with my first corals 5 years ago and still does ,Also a big thanks to Daz of Reefsecrets for his amazing Anthias and other wet jewels , also I would like to thank the MASQ and wider MASA communities for their support and knowledge , you never stop learning in this hobby , I have seen all the changes over the last 41 years of keeping marine fish , and I look forward to the new ideas and innovations this hobby will bring in the future.

P.S I wish I paid attention at school and learnt Latin , I wish I could use a camera and a computer , Anyway Thanks again.

:roflmao: love it, you sure have some stories to tell over the course of your reefing days. You didn't share the best story where you nearly brought the plane down smuggling coral sand :laugh:

Couldn't think of a more deserving tank for this months TOTM mate, congrats again
