Black Patches on substrate

Anyone know what these black patches are? Started forming a few weeks ago

Are they firm on the rock or can you brush it off?

There's a nice crop of Aiptasia there though.

Its soft so you can brush it off.. yeah the aiptasia seems to come and go... a few weeks back i had none of it..

I'd say cyano then. How old is the tank? What are your params?

Have to agree its a bit cyano looking. Phosphates might be creeping up in ratio to nitrates.

Just checked the parameters... nitrates 0, phosphates 0, HR ph 8, KH - 5
Seems my kh has dropped quite a bit in the last few weeks so will start dealing with that

The tanks about 2 years old...
