Fish List 3x2x1.5. Suggestions, critique, ideas.

Postby 555combo » Fri 23 Oct, 2015 12:51 pm

Upgrading soon but wanting to plan for the future so looking for advise on my stocking list and order.

I know a Foxface is a debatable inclusion. I am happy to buy small, and sell when it gets too big (again a debatable point). It will be included mainly as a herbivore, but if someone can suggest something else that would be great. I know it is too small for tangs so not even considering them.

I know the list in it's entirety is too much for the tank, so suggestions of suitable configurations from the list would be greatly appreciated.

Current:
Fish:
2 Occ Clowns
Lawnmower Blenny

Inverts:
Trochus
Strombus
Other Snails (Turbos, Nassarius, Stomatella)
Short Spined Urchin
Maxima Clam

Really Want:
Foxface
Cleaner Shrimp

The Rest:
Firefish Mated Pair
Rainfords Goby
6 Line Wrasse
Something 'Blue'

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Aaron.

I have the same size tank and have twice that list. I do have good filtration though. Plenty of liverock plus 4L of ceramic puremedia spheres(quoted 240 square foot surface area per ball). Big skimmer, 24/7 18w uv light, ozone run at least once a week and plenty of flow over barebottom to take most waste to sump and skimmer where it goes out via the skimmer or siphoning. Plus I run kalk which further keeps phosphate down. 30L water change once a week.
It all depends what type of system you want to run. I have a mixture of soft coral, Lps and Acros most of which are doing well. Acros arent thriving but that may be as much to do with the size of the tank and my lighting or lack there of as much as anything else.
All fish are all healthy and doing well. The fish are what I think makes the tank, the coral are more decoration. That's not to say Acros arent growing, because certain ones have grown considerably and maintained colour.
Like I said all depends what you want.

My 2c:

Fox face is a no. Stigmata Blenny would be ok for algae control
6 line with the cleaner shrimp is risky
Leopard wrasse or cleaner wrasse for blue

Thanks for the responses.

My reason for hesitation on the foxface is that they get big. And I may not be able to catch it when it gets too big.

Would the stigmata(ember) get on ok with the lawnmower blenny?

6 line is out, I was considering the leopard for a while, but it seems they can be hard to look after and I wasn't too sure if calgrit would be a suitable substrate for them. Would love a trio, but was cautious. Will have to look into them a bit more.

Thanks for the advise. Keep it coming.
Cheers,
Aaron.

Ah cool, good to know.

I have a small one in same sized tank. It is favorite resident, but very small for a fox face and I doubt I'll resist an upgrade in the next couple of yrs.

It is impossible to catch without removing rock work. I can confirm that :)

You ca t really mix blennys, even male female pairs are dicey, if I lose my giant lawnmower I plan to get a stigmata instead.
