Fox Face(s)

Postby Aussie Mcgee » Mon 10 Aug, 2015 12:33 pm

Hi All,

Have a ~400L total vol mixed reef system.

I have a bunch of fish which include 2 reasonably sized foxfaces (~ 120mm +), who up until recently have been pretty cruisy. However, over the last month or so one of them seems to being a bit more dominant and picking on the other.

I have increased my feeding which seems to have fixed the problem - pellets with nori chopped through it auto feed 3 x day (plus a pinch or two when ever I walk past), and then Mysis once a week. But just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues and if they have successfully kept multiple foxfaces ?

I saw two looking pretty friendly in a fish shop, bought one and then felt guilty for separating them so read up a little in prep for going back and getting the 2nd one. Apparently they are a schooling fish, and they will get on when younger, but as they grow they start to fight and become incompatible. I decided not to get the 2nd one.

400L is pretty confined for 1 adult FF anyway, same with the Blue Tang, they will all probably need new homes within 12-18 months.

Have a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=46&t=264181#p1248765

Two of any rabbitfish in a tank really doesn't work as a rule.

I have a one-spot foxface & gold spotted rabbitfish in the same tank, it works just fine. 6ft btw and they have been together for roughly 4 months now.

4 months is nothing in reefing. All fish are different and anything can work sometimes but generally it's a bad idea.
