So the light tested fine overnight, so it looks like the tank will be filled either tonight or tomorrow. The lights haven't been totally cleaned up regarding the wiring, so that will happen at a later stage. Fingers crossed that I can get some pics up later.

I found it 2nd hand in the classifieds almost 6 months ago (wow my projects take forever), so I grabbed it hoping to get the mantis tank running. As always life throws a few curve balls so this got pushed further and further back.

I know I promised pics but after the temp yesterday, I'd rather not set-up the tank before I had some way to control the temp.

Soooo... rather then just sit on hands, doing diddly, I decided to rip out my Arduino gear and see if I could make something that'll do the job of cooling the tank, and run the lights.
What I've managed to make is a Stilo coded controller to take the hassle out of having to flick the lights etc.

The controller still has a few kinks to work out regarding lighting etc and still needs a few more components (come on mr postman... Please install NOS on your postbike...)

Prices etc
Arduino Mega 2560 R3 - $20.50
TFT mega shield - $6.20
RTC - $1.74
3.2" TFT screen - $18.99
5 x DS18B20 temp sensors - $6.06
spare wiring + used breadboards for shields - freebie, zilch, naddaaaa....

Total cost of controller thus far = $53.49

Modded lights to run 3 channels. Parts list including all the components from the last update
1 x LDD350H $6.25
2 x LDD500H $12.50
1 x OCW LED $6.88
2 x True Violet LEDs $9.94
1 x Cree 3-up (1CW, 2RB) $11.50
2nd Hand Makersled heatsink - $40

Total for lighting $87.07

2nd Hand Skimz iBox $35
Heater $5.50

Total cost of set up = $181.06

Actually...

Here's a pic to keep the vulture off my back... :pirate:

No photos of the Mantis as he hides behind all the gear in the sump. I'll get pics before he's introduced to the pico.
We can have that beer, when we set up the tank we were talking about.

I've found an old sink at a recycle place that I'm seriously considering buying, $90 seems like a decent deal. I just need to do a dreaded Bunnings run as I want to check if I can get a silicone that is aquarium safe and will bond glass or acrylic to stone. If such a silicone existing I will look forward to a brainstorm, don't be shy to bring the little fella.

Ok ok ok. I'll charge the DSLR and get photos. Its been running for the last couple days, but is pretty much just barebones (liverock, nothing else) atm. Getting a few things like sand for aethestics etc on Thursday.
