new build [scorpion reef]

Postby acronut » Mon 27 Oct, 2014 9:47 am

Im moving to a new house and will be setting up a new system, thaught id start a journal now.

Tank: 5.5x2.5x2 internal central blackened weir with black background

sump: 4x2x18

Cabinet and surround: high gloss black with stainless steel handles

Tank is on wall in dinning room with sump located in laundry behind, with frag systems attached.

will be utilising all equipment from existing system including radions x3 mabe 4, suspended on mounting rail, combination of tunze and mp40s for flow, ro 3000 ikstrakt skimmer, ro pellet reactor and some tlf reactors for gfo and carbon, will also have a kalkwasser stirrer in line from the ato reservoir.

Dosing will be the same as now with cal cloride, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, lugols iodine and strontium. as for mag... any mag will do. Also some calcium nitrates to maintain redfeild ratio

No3 control will be pellets and a removable fuge with some lr and caulerpa. Po4 control will be gfo and lanth if/when needed.

I am toying with the idea of running a faux sandbed but still unsure...

Tank has been ordered and settlement on the new house is on 20/11/14 so not to far off now

Nice build :-x

I am building a tank soon and would love to know what size tubing you used for your stand and a rough cost for the steel if you don't mind.

the stand wasnt exactly cheap around $700 and im still waiting on the tupac panels for the facia.
its all 75mm angle notched out to 40mm at the weir, powder coated black.

Thanks for the info  I was looking at the pics on my phone yesterday and thought the stand was made of box tube steel, wow $700 for it I didn't realise steel was that pricey.

Love the look of the tank and stand in latest pic, coming together nicely  .

No faux sand bed?

So what substrate are you using? looks larger grain size.

Im beginning to think this tank is cursed, after filling it half way i realised its not level so had to break it down and use some packers to level it. I know i know stupid mistake. Then i came home today to that unmistakable smell of stressed corals to find the heater in my holding tank had malfunctioned and cooked everything :wall: :wall:

Sorry to hear about losing your corals. You have some nice sized colonies in there.

Beautiful tank. The clams look awesome, How long have they been with you ?

As others have said beautiful job on the stand, that RHS must be hefty I'll have to flick back thru to see how thick it is. That stand is the gravy!!
