Stripes ZEOvit Cube - Pulling it down!

Postby StripestheEel » Thu 13 Nov, 2008 2:42 pm

Introduction:
Hey people. As some of you know I pulled down my Old Tank due to illness and a subsequent interstate move in May 08. I have since been given the clear bill of health and made it into the sunny state.

I live with my parents currently as they are building a house. With the new house comes a big tank, more on that later.

However, no tank of late has equalled boredom. One of the MASQ members donated me a 2ft cube to play around with.... So the 6 month play tank is born.

System Objectives: Something to keep me going until the new tank is ready. Not spend alot of money. Use some of my existing equipment from old tank.

System Type: Unsure yet, probably mixed reef with 4-5 small fish. Nothing too exciting as it will be pulled down within 6 months.

Display System:

Strike up Date: 22/11/08

Display Tank: 2' Cube. 10mm Eurobrace. Tank has no weir. Just two 25mm holes drilled into back pane.

Display Lighting: x4 24W T5, x10 LED, 400w 14k Metal Halide

Stand: 1150mm height x 2' x 2'. Open stand in pine. Tony (Aus_Maddog) putting it together for me

Hood: No hood

Sump: 2' x 16 x 16

Refugium: N/A

Refugium Lighting: As above

Support systems:

System Water: NSW

Display Water circulation: Tunze TS24 kit. Haha. Will dial it down though.

Return Pump: Pondmaster 3500 MK2

Skimmer: Dual Recirculating Beckett. 200mm Chamber. Approximately 1200mm high. (yes it will be overkill) its from my old tank and for my new tank.

Evaporation Top Up: Tunze Osmolator

Chemical Support:

Calcium Addition: Turbo Special Dual Stage Calc Reactor

Alkilinity Addition: Turbo Special Dual Stage Calc Reactor

Other Chemical Maintenance: Magnesium etc

Current Water Chemistry:
Nitrates: 10
Phosphates: 10
Alkalinity: n/a
Calcium: n/a
Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.026
Magnesuim: n/a

Sounds great, I would use it as something to kind of experiment with, give BB a try or something, with your flow and skimmer it would work really well :)

Yeah exactly what I'll be doing Adam. Just something to play around with!

*Images* as you can see I have no weir, I am not going to add one as the tank is only temporary.

Since getting the tank from Jai aka reaper I have purchased some simple plumbing along with ball valves to regulate flow.

Black adhesive vinyl for the back pane.

Glued in a few bits and pieces.

You can probably see the end caps are a little high, I have already reduced these. :pirate:

Should have a stand by early next week. Then I can throw some water and rock in.

Livestock Plans
x1 Sohal tang
x1 Achilles tang
x3 Yellow Tangs
x2 Ocellaris Clowns
x2 Blue Tangs

Any other suggestions?

Just kidding..

Fish

Sixline Wrasse

Inverts
CBS or Redline Cleaner Shrimp
Clean up crew

The livestock will be apart of the new big tank so will be transferred when this tank is pulled down. Grammas are my favourite fish so will be sticking with them for the little cube.

Haha because we're living at a rental currently.

The new tank will be enough, the little one will be decommissioned.

I'm a tang lover so will be weird to not see any of them in there, I've never owned anything smaller than a 4 foot.

Welcome back to the game Matt. Knew FragFest was too much for you to handle!!!

I have a spare electronic ballast and Mini Lumenarc reflector laying round here. Yuo are welcome to use that if you wish. I think I have a 250 and 400 watt 1.

Please done buy anymore plumbing till you come down here and go through the boxes of the stuff I have as well.

Cant wait to see what you can do in 6 months. I reckon we might just be able to find you a frag of Xenia somewhere dont you think Tony?

:wavey: Matt,

Stand should be ready for collection later today mate!!
I just have to finish a couple of supports for the bottom shelf and the bottom ply, then its ready for a good sanding just to smooth everything out ready for primer coat.
Here are a couple of photos of today's progress so far.
Stand is approximately 1100mm high by 600mm x 600mm.

Fish by Monday, I wish!!

Will see how things pan out.

Bunnings were closed when I got there tonight so will get the goodies early tomorrow morning. Few coats of paint should be done by Tuesday if all goes good.

Need to get some styro for the base of the tankthough. Need to find out where to source some.

Then the search begins for my fish friends.

I have seemed to of confused a few people joking about my livestock plans.

If you look carefully under it I was joking.

My REAL livestock plan is:

Pair Royal Gramma
Pair Blackcap Gramma
Sixline Wrasse

Due to the inclement weather I couldnt get out to paint the stand today.

I'm hoping I can get to this over the next few days.

To answer the above question; achilles are just as hard to find it as Sydney.

My lighting will consist of a Lumenarc mini reflector with 400w MH, x4 24W T5 and 10 Blue LEDs.
