Alk Test Kits

Postby BoomerJ » Fri 24 May, 2013 11:13 am

Hello Guppys

Love the website.

I have purchases a Salifert and now a red sea test kit for alk.
Neither can mesaure alk.

I thought it was my tank so I tested some NSW, same result.

On the red sea is the ALK portion the same bottle as the Ph portion. I have 2 x plastic bottles in the kit.

Can you please advise / help.

Cheers

The Salifert alkalinity test is tried and true.
In what way is it not working?

Hello Basenji.

the first reagent does not change the colour, nor does the second spoonfull of chrystals, nor does adding the titration reagent 3. Its always clear.

Red sea reads 1 dkh which is also BS.

The salifert alk test has no crystals...

Also the first reagent will be a green colour in a dropper bottle and putting green liquid into clear water = green water. Titration will change it to a red\pink colour (if I remember right).

The test also has a 'standard' solution in there so you can 'calibrate' I guess. Make sure you are not using that when testing your water.

If you can't get it right take both kits down to your LFS and ask them nicely to show you how to use them :)
