clownfish, laying like crazy

Postby alvin » Mon 14 Sep, 2015 10:55 pm

Hi, I have had a pair of Ocellaris Clownfish for 18 months, now they have started to breed.
they have hatched 3 lots of eggs and have just laid there 4th.
my question, is it normal for them to lay eggs 3-4 days after hatching, 4 in a row.
also, has anyone have rotifers around the Wollongong/Sydney area.
thanks for any advice.

Congrats on having your clowns breed. They will breed continually throughout the year provided they are happy and conditions are right. Once eggs hatch they begin laying the next lot. Prolific spawners once they start. I'm in melb but can post some rotifers if needed - send me a pm. Best of luck.

Yes laying that often is right. If the water temp is low in the tank, they will even lay a new nest before the previous one has hatched.
For A. ocellaris, you want them to be hatching on about the 9th day from being laid. Much longer than that and the fry will have used up most of the reserves in the egg.
Then at around the 14th day they will lay again.
