You gave me the biggest grin Capt... There's a certain pride when as a complete novice/ noob you get an answer where people know what they're talking about say the same thing..

Sad news about them not surviving long. Have you looked at what people do to make various cuttlefish survive? There are LOTS of cuttlefish breeders out there. Perhaps you can learn something there.

Very interesting on the occy.

How is everything else going? Got anything "special" being raised. Pm me if you need to

I can't wait to get back into it, but am thinking of trying different fish and even sea horses this time.

Nothing special being raised at the moment. The breeding is taking a back seat at the moment as my 6x2x2 is being replaced and its confused as to the point of a tank and is letting the insides out. :furious: On the plus side I now get a new 8 x 2.5 x 2 so thats a win.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it.

Though Im not sure if dedicated is the right words, Im fairly sure there are medical terms for what my problem is.

Tonight was a good night with the blue tangs spawning for the first time in the new tank. I didnt manage to see the event, but heard the splash then turned to see the chromis, damsel and cleaner wrasses having a free meal.

It also looks like my red line cleaner shrimp should release larvae tonight as well, so I may just have another run at them.

I was cleaning on of my breeding tanks today, scraping the sides etc, then left the water to settle before vacuuming it out. For the entire 15 mints between scraping and vacuuming the female mandarin keep going back to the clowns corner (they spawn here).

Well my breeding activities are starting to get back into full swing. I am attempting new batches of shrimp, with both Peppermints and now Red Line Cleaner shrimp larvae.

Hopefully Ill get further and actually get some number of both (or at least peppermints) through.

For those who have not seen the size of these larvae before, the white circle in the photo above is 9cm in diameter.

In the video you can see them being collected in the larvae snagger.

yup, I really like little shrimp fry, they are just sort of fun to watch.

I quite often use to catch myself just holding a torch over the larvae bucket to attract them and watch them hunt brine shrimp.

btw the facebook page went a little nuts today. Likes for the page went from 95 to 119. Both of the posts from today were viewed by 165 and 70 people. Normally I see less activity in a week on it. Thanks for posting about it.

Surprisingly the batch of shrimp is still alive tonight.

I dont get how this works, when I try to keep them alive they die. When they get 240v through them, they are happy and dandy.
Maybe I have just found the key to raising them.

Next batch Ill try dropping a hair drier in the tank for kicks or just stripped wires directly into the tank. That way I shouldn't blow up the tank, but can still give them a a good old jolt.

Good work. There is really a need for breeding red line cleaner shrimp on scale. Might have to come knocking when you raise a batch.

Something that is interesting, is the tail of these. They are spindly rather than joined like a fan. Im not sure if this is normal

Tonight I found some snail eggs that are different to ones I have seen before.
There are a couple of species of snails in the tank, Turbos, Astria, Trochus, Strombus, Paper snails (Stomatella sp) and nassarius sp.

If anyone can suggest a culprit that would be great, I think that they are nassarius as the adults have been climbing on the glass in that area for the last couple of days in pairs.

The eggs are spread along the glass, approx 1cm above the sand line in the tank. There are 10-15 patches of eggs, with between 20 and 100 per patch at a rough estimate.
The eggs are approx .1-.2mm in diameter.

The first two pictures are of the same group of eggs. The third picture is of another group.

Yup, that's the pattern I was expecting for nassarius sp. also they are at the waterline by the looks of the pic.

Mine are at the sand line, or just above it.

Capt.. What the hell do you do to have so much breeding going on in that tank. I've got this image of lots of Barry White music, with the lights dimming. Suddenly BOOM. EGGS AND LARVAE FOR EVERYONE!
