Image Description

This is a crack in an elm tree nearby that was struck by lighting, a strike of which transfers around 500 MJ of energy.

The parts on the side are the bark, what you are looking at is a crack within the tree itself. The bark over where the current ran down the tree exploded off, as you would expect. You could find bits of the bark around 30m away from the tree.
