Image Description

My point in this photo was to work on the technique for achieving a full black background using the camera only.
I achieved it by
- having a dark, non-reflective background seperated by a long distance from the subject
- using low depth of field (lowest f-number available)
- adjusting flash intensity to light only the foreground subject

My wife thought I was insane when she found me up in the shed with the light turned off, standing on a sawstool, taking photos vertically downwards of a rubics cube balanced on a length of PVC pipe.

Hahaha, she may be right. ;)

Did you focus it right on the end, or slightly down the face?

Yeah, I didn't quite crack the focus. I think it was focussed on the front tip. The back end of the cube is a little soft.

Yes, I can solve it. Can't everyone? ;)
